A summary of the various services offered by Sage Counseling is presented below. We would be pleased to discuss with you any of these therapies in greater depth and answer any questions that you may have about them. All therapies are appropriate for both adults and teens except where noted.
Therapy for Mental Health
Some examples of treatment include:
- Family/relationship conflict
- Anger
- Depression
- Life transitions
- Anxiety
- Grief/loss
Individual Psychotherapy
Individual psychotherapy involves meeting regularly with clients in private sessions one-on-one with one of our therapists to talk about current or past thoughts, feelings and experiences. The goal of therapy is to help the client achieve enhanced well-being through positive changes in behaviors, beliefs and emotions. The content of these sessions is mutually determined by the client and therapist.
Couples Therapy
The goal of couples therapy is to help two people involved in a romantic relationship improve the satisfaction of their relationship by obtaining insight into their relationship and resolving conflict. Couples therapy focuses on identifying specific problems and developing solutions to those problems while building communication and other skills to enhance the relationship.
Family Therapy
Positive family relationships are a foundation of good mental health. Family therapy can reduce stress and conflict, particularly during times of crisis in one or more members, by improving the patterns of interactions and communication between family members.
Group Psychotherapy
Group psychotherapy involves one or two therapists meeting regularly with several people at the same time in a session. Groups at Sage Counseling can be as small as three people and as large as eight people. One of the main benefits of group therapy is for people to receive support from others so that individuals feel hope in their circumstances. People often feel less alone when they see others who share similar problems.
Anger Management for Adults
Anger is a normal human emotion. Anger can be a catalyst for positive change but it can also be destructive when it is not channeled properly. The Anger Management therapy is for people who would like to learn ways to cope with their anger in healthier ways. The treatment helps people understand their attitudes and beliefs about anger, identify underlying emotions, and develop conscious strategies to cope with it.
Stress Management
Therapy for Substance Use Disorders
Individual & Group Psychotherapy
Similar to individual psychotherapy for mental health and wellness, individual psychotherapy for substance abuse involves meeting regularly with you in private sessions one-on-one with one of our therapists to talk about current or past thoughts, feelings and experiences as they relate to using substances. The goal of therapy is to help the client achieve enhanced well-being by reducing and or eliminating the use of substances including drugs and alcohol by addressing underlying root causes. Group psychotherapy can provide people with support and hope in the recovery process.
Marijuana Counseling
Despite increased legalization and acceptance of smoking marijuana, using cannabis is dangerous to the developing teen brain and can be addictive leading to various health and social problems.
Counseling for Adults & Older Teens (Adults and Teens 16+)
The Marijuana Counseling Program is a 10-week program of individual therapy for people who wish to reduce or stop smoking marijuana because it is unmanageable. The program helps people identify patterns of use, triggers and how to cope with them by building coping skills and relapse prevention strategies. A certificate is awarded at the end of the program.
Counseling for Teens (Teens 12- 16)
The Marijuana Counseling Program for teens is a 5-week program consisting of two individual therapy sessions and three group sessions. The program works with adolescents individually to build motivation and goals regarding marijuana use and in a group to build social supports and plans for high-risk situations that could lead to continued misuse. A certificate is awarded at the end of the program.
Post-DUI Counseling
All 50 states have laws for driving under the influence (DUI) and over the past several years these laws have become stricter. Consequences of receiving a DUI are extensive including legal, emotional and financial. Sage Counseling offers personalized post-DUI counseling for individuals who are court-ordered to seek treatment.
Gambling Treatment
Over 5 million Americans suffer from problem gambling which impacts mental and physical health, interpersonal relationships, finances and other aspects of life. The good news is that it can be successfully treated. Sage Counseling provides psychotherapy for persons who compulsively gamble by addressing underlying causes and developing strategies that motivate and support change.
Just for Teens
Anger Management for Adolescents

Retail Theft Therapy for Adolescents
This therapy is conducted in individual or group sessions to address shoplifting. The four (4) session series will address the individual’s thoughts, feelings and behavior that resulted in shoplifting, and how the behavior affected the client and others. In addition, the series will identify the social, financial and legal consequences of shoplifting, and build skills for how to stand up to peer pressure in the future and make better choices.
